Dear Office Sluts in the middle of the room:
We don’t really want to hear about how your latest conquest over the weekend thought you were a slut. Everyone else already knows you are. While you’re at it, if you want to get a job more suited to your talents, the stripper bars up the stairs are hiring. Til then, would it be too much to ask if you would shut the hell up and just work? Your office manners are more suited to happy hour than the workplace.
I’m an RN in Ohio who is on the brink of emotional meltdown. Prior to this, I was a Paramedic and damn did I love that job. I entered into nursing as what I figured was the next logical step. Medicine has always intrigued me. What I didn’t expect was how there is a total and complete lack of support out here for nurses. I think this is the crux of the problem. Hey…i’ll turn around so you can see the whip marks on my back!!!!!
Have you ever felt that all the skills and intelligence you had were not only being wasted, but being wasted intentionally in order to publicly and privately humiliate your personality and destroy your soul no? well then listen to this story boys and girls and empathize with me a lil’ while I spin my tale.
I am an intern at a company in Silicon Valley. But they are not a tech company, what they actually do is put on conferences for tech CEO’s. Seems legit enough right? Wrong! When I was hired I was told that they were hiring me and the other interns because we were the best of the best (all currently in two of the top colleges in the area). We’re all pretty smart guys, capable, we can think on our feet. And what do they have us doing for the most part: fucking data entry. Basically what we do is look companies up online and put their info into the database. As one of my co-sufferers said “basically the internet is our database.” It would be marginally better if the information we entered was useful in some way. But no, for the most part any work we do after it is thrown in into a black hole sun of this-shit-will-never-be-used-again. I mean this stuff might be used but god knows we’ll never hear about it. It would be okay if the database were useful, but its not. It’s a total fucking mess. No one actually maintains anything. Anyone can add anything. Very rarely does anyone double check that the data is correct. Nothing is in the right format. Lets just put it this way, this is what one entry had listed as the address: Canada! Yea that’s right all it said was fucking Canada. I wanna send those guys a letter and see where it ends up
I swear this is a true story. At a previous company there were restrooms tucked away in all corners of the office space. Some were marked “men” and “women” and some were unisex.
In a weekly progress report session with my immediate supervisor, I was told that a Department Manager from another department had called to complain that they noticed an offensive odor in one of the unisex bathrooms after I had used it.
I laughed it off and said, “Well, it’s supposed to if you use it right.”
I was informed, with all seriousness, that to “avoid future trouble” I should not use that particular restroom any longer. I went to the head of HR and was told the same thing; “Perhaps you should use another restroom in the future to avoid any misunderstandings.”
Later, the same Department Manager called my supervisor to complain that I was frequently seen on their side of the building and they wanted to know why. I looked at my supervisor and and said, “Well, if you move my company mail box and the employee lunchroom and vending machines to this side of the building, I’d never go over there again.”
My supervisor agreed that I had a “good point.”
