11/28/09: Stupid Criminals
Authorities said a 31-year-old Detroit man who was stranded at a southeast Michigan hospital face charges after he stole an ambulance. Police said the man stole the ambulance from the St. John River District Hospital in St. Clair County's East China Township on Saturday night after people inside the facility refused to give him a ride to St. Clair where his vehicle was located.
Michigan State Police Sgt. Craig Nyeholt told The Times Herald in Port Huron that the man fled in an ambulance left idling outside the emergency room entrance, but was arrested a short time later.
Police have not identified the man, who was expected to be arraigned Monday.
No further details were released.

911 operators often get calls from people observing an impaired driver on the road. What makes the call Mary Strey made unique, is that she called 911 on herself.
"Somebody's really drunk driving down Granton Road," she told the 911 dispatcher.
The dispatcher asked if the Strey was behind the drunk driver, to which she replied "No, I am them."
The dispatcher asked, "Okay, so you're calling to report you're driving drunk?"
"Yes," Strey said.
The 911 operatorr told Strey to pull her vehicle over, and she complied. She waited for a deputy to arrive with her hazard lights flashing. According to the police report, Strey failed field sobriety tests, and a preliminary breath test showed she had a blood alcohol content of .19, more than twice the legal limit to drive.
She was given a citation for operating a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol content of .10 or more. She's due in court in December, facing charges of first offense operating under the influence.

In the latest tale of criminal masterminds at work, an Australian car thief was arrested after he managed to accidentally lock himself in thevehicle he was trying to steal.
Police were called to a house in Adelaide after two thieves were heard trying to steal a car.
On arrival, they were surprised to find a 53-year old man hiding inside the vehicle.
'The man, while breaking into the car, had locked himself in the car and couldn't get out,' South Australian police said.
They added that the second thief was found hiding in nearby bushes.

A bank robber solved his own crime for authorities last week, leaving a pay stub with his name and address at the scene, according to the Chicago office of the FBI.
Thomas Infante, 40, was arrested after the Fifth Third Bank at 4017 West Lawrence was robbed on Friday.
Infante walked into the bank and handed a teller a threatening note demanding cash, according to an FBI news release. What the FBI said they noticed but Infante failed to consider was that the note was written on the back of his own pay stub.
When he fled the bank, Infante left the note behind, including a torn-off portion dropped outside the bank that included his name and address, the FBI said.
Infante was arrested at his home in Cary, Ill., where he allegedly confessed to the robbery.
And the take wasn't even that good -- the teller only handed over $397, according to a criminal complaint.
If convicted, he could spend up to 20 years behind bars.

VERO BEACH, Fla. – A McDonald’s cashier called 911 after a Vero Beach drive-thru customer allegedly offered to pay for his meal with marijuana. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said the cashier called Monday with a description of the vehicle the suspect had been riding in.
A deputy spotted the vehicle, found marijuana in the car and arrested its occupant, 27-year-old Shawn Alexander Pannullo.
Pannullo was charged with possession of cannabis and posted $500 bail. It was unclear if he had an attorney.
A Sheriff’s report did not say what the suspect ordered at McDonald’s or if he ultimately purchased the meal using something other than marijuana.

When two guys in cowboy garb offered the sheriff's deputies doughnuts, and then the deputies investigated a burglary involving doughnuts and the prints of cowboy boots, it didn't take Sherlock Holmes to crack the case.
"The officers kind of put two and two together," Deputy District Attorney Dave Hopkins said Tuesday at the sentencing of Adam Hancock, 21, of Baker City on theft and burglary charges.
